ac·knowl·edge·ments
n., pl. — ak-ˈnä-lij-mənts

In music: the liner-note credits naming those who made the work possible but who never played a note on it.

In life: For our ancestors, the creatives, our unknown pioneers, to the spaces we’ve made, for our teachers, the cities, for our language, the too many unrecognized moments, to standing up for our communities, the acts that moved everyone forward, to our happenings, for all we have lost along the way, to revising the revisionist history.

Why we exist

Every record stands on hands that never touched the tape.

Every cultural moment is built on uncredited labor and inherited lineage. The venue that took a chance. The community that was there first. The workers paid too little, the elders never named, the rooms that closed before anyone wrote them down.

Acknowledgements exists to name them. We hold the memory of what came before a moment so the moment can’t pretend it arrived alone — closed venues, displaced communities, underpaid cultural workers, and the artistic lineages that shaped this landscape but rarely get the credit.

Not a vendor. Not an event company. A cultural steward — making the invisible visible.
What we take on & seek out

The work finds what’s been left off the credits.

i

Honor the lineage

Trace a sound, a scene, or a space back to who made it possible — and say their names out loud, in public.

ii

Platform the overlooked

Build stages and pages for the artists and cultural workers the record never lists but the culture can’t exist without.

iii

Keep the memory

Make tools, language, and bodies of work that hold cultural memory before it’s displaced, demolished, or forgotten.

The work we’ve done

One mission, in three forms: a stage, a tool, a page.
